Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Heather Y — 18 Jul 2012
A solid musical poorly adapted, mostly due to weak casting. Gerard Butler is dreadful as the Phantom, both in acting and most importantly - singing. Emmy Rossum is pretty good, as is Patrick Wilson (except his haircut - ugh!) and the production values are very strong.
But characters always appear to be miming their songs aka. Britney Spears style - so the illusion is continually shattered. Try again, Hollywood.
