Review of The Phantom of the Opera (2004) by Brian M — 07 Aug 2012
Where to start? The editing is sloppy, the sets and costumes too garish for words, the acting flat and the singing lackluster. I give Gerard Butler credit for trying; it's obvious he gave it his all, but ultimately he comes across strained and forced sounding, though he looks good onscreen.
Emmy Rossum is the best thing about the film. Overall, though, a major disappointment.
