Review of The Phantom of the Opera (1925) by Janice Y — 26 Aug 2005
Nosferatu - great little horror film. Truly unnerving, especially Max Schreck, who is very tall and lanky, and moves in such a strange way. It's almost a horror movie in itself just to watch him move around the scenes.
The Phantom of the Opera (1929) - I am simply astounded by this film. It is brilliant and GORGEOUS. I have seen very few films in my life that have actually made me audibly say "wow" when I watched them. Lon Chaney stole the show, of course, as The Phantom, who is merciless and desperately in love.
The scene on the balcony, with his red cape blowing in the wind as he eavesdroves on Christine and her lover, was awe-inspiring.
