Review of The Petrified Forest (1936) by Jeff B — 15 Aug 2011
Short and entertaining film starring Leslie Howard who plays a wandering traveler who stops at a diner in the middle of the Arizona desert that Bette Davis works at. Of course, at the same time, killer Humphrey Bogart is on the loose and takes shelter at the diner while a sand storm starts to take place.
Cool set up, though obviously based on a play it's a nicely done adaptation. Howard was excellent, and it's a great role for Bogart (his first big role). It goes by very quickly because it's got great dialogue, there's even a funny little gag I couldn't help but laugh at involving a college name.
Worth checking out if you want some early suspense.
