Review of The Pervert's Guide to Cinema (2006) by Ville I — 09 Sep 2008
Philosopher, psycho-analyst Slavoj Zizek dissects the hidden meta- and superstructures of cinema with a razor-sharp wit and an outrageous accent. Always a step ahead in his thinking, Zizek's ramblings take a Freudian look at films ranging from Tarkovski to Alien: Resurrection and manage to make sense of the arcane language of film theorists everywhere. Much like listening to your favorite lecturer expand your mind on your favorite subject, then.
All in all, required viewing for anybody who thinks films are more than seeing Matthew McGonaughey without his shirt on. I finally "get" something about a David Lynch film! Wohoo!
