Review of The Pervert's Guide to Cinema (2006) by Robert A — 08 Nov 2011
Interesting as heck, but there's surely much more to cinema than the few examples Zizek pulls from here. Sweeping statements on film (from a decidedly heterosexual male perspective, no less) can grow a touch flimsy when it all comes down to examples from 'Blue Velvet'-on David Lynch.
But, just like Lynch, Zizek's a unique individual. Cinema's got more than enough room for Lynch, so even if what Zizek is saying really only applies to one facet of cinema, it's all perfectly valid and sound right where it dwells, y'know?
