"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is a story whose honesty pulls on your heart strings, making it so much more than just a coming of age story. There are many dark themes which run throughout the story, however, the plot is also quite fun at times, with Charlie beginning to get to know who he really is as he experiences new and exciting things with his friends.
It is complemented by a great from The Smiths to Dexys Midnight Runners. And while concerns regarding the screenplay being penned by the novel's author, the resulting fidelity to the original text is refreshing to see on screen.
