Its rare when a film adaptation comes around that manages to make YA readers acknowledge that the movie just might be as good as the book. Perks is poignant and somehow avoids the sappiness and general cliches that plagued the John Green adaptations. You could start a national debate on the star cast member. Is it the quirky, energetic Ezra Miller, the free-spirited Emma Watson, or Logan Lerman's quiet portrayal of a pained boy with something to hide? The acting is top notch.
The film checks everything it needs to be a standout teen drama. Music is on point, and the splashes of indie artsiness make the overall package flavorful. If you like YA films, this may be the best one out, ever.
