Review of The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) by Monica L — 01 Dec 2013
Disappointing. After having read the book and hearing so much about how fantastic this movie was, I had high expectations. What I found was the metaphorical equivalent of a deflating balloon. Logan Lerman, making a pouty face and knotting your eyebrows the whole movie is not acting (you just look perpetually confused in my opinion).
In fact I find it kind of annoying, how he's entirely relying on teenage girls to think he's adorable just to get past the fact he can't act unless his script were to read "just be super awkward and cute the whole movie, kay!" which fortunately for him it might as well have been.
Also Emma Watson's performance just comes off forced, while appealing to many a Tumblr blog, listening to her atrocious American accent enunciate "c'mon, let's go be freaks together" was nothing short of nauseating.
I have a weak spot (and not the good kind) for snobby teenagers that think they're more cultured and quirky than you just because they like some stupid band you've never heard of. All in all this movie would be a great coming of age story if it weren't for the two main characters and their cringe-worthy teen selves that somehow did not translate well from book to film.
The stupid hipster drawl is infinite.
