Review of The Perfect Host (2010) by Jarrett M — 12 Dec 2011
The Perfect Host is a film that is best served by going into it knowing as little about it as possible. The trailer, as is the case with most now, gives away a little too much. Mind you, giving away anything in this film is giving away too much.
The story is fairly simple, but takes many twists and turns and requires a great deal of suspension of disbelief to accept the plot devices that allow the story to take it's journey to completion.
The acting here by the majority of the cast is passable, but It is David Hyde Pierce who stands out in this film. In fact, he's probably the best reason to see this film. He delivers a performance that is reminiscent of his character Niles Crane from 'Fraiser', if Niles was a complete lunatic.
The plot moves along at a decent enough pace and shouldn't really alienate anyone. The problem with the film is that the plot and it's points are built to allow the twists to occur, and therefore they don't seem to occur naturally, but feel forced.
Also, by the end, it just seems like you're numb from the constant twists and misdirection. This isn't a bad film, just one that could have used a few less twists in the plot. Anyone who is a fan of David Hyde Pierce should check this out, his performance is definately worth at least one watch.
Most others may be turned off by the non-sensical and contrived plot.
