Review of The Perfect Host (2010) by Mike S — 02 Mar 2012
John Taylor, a career criminal, has just robbed a bank and is on the run. Hurt and seeking a place to lay low, John convinced Warwick to let him into his house using the good old "I got mugged and need help" excuse.
Shenanigans ensue as John quickly discovers that Warwick is batshit insane. The only reason I wanted to see this film is to see David Hyde Pierce playing a crazy bastard and he doesnt disappoint. I used to watch Frasier and it's really a great departure to see him playing this Schizophrenic psychopath.
The best parts of the film are just watching him enjoy himself as he throws a house party, where all the guests besides John happen to be in his head. The problem is the film tries to hard to with a backstory involving John and his girlfriend which just takes away from the fun and there are quite a few twists and turns that just don't work.
It's just too loaded and I would have much rather the film just stay at Warwick's house for the entire film instead of the last 20 minutes or so. It's pretty funny and sick but it's ultimately a let down.
