Review of The People vs. George Lucas (2010) by Jens T — 18 Dec 2011
The People vs. George Lucas is a documentary of how disappointed the Star Wars fan is about George Lucas' unnatural decisions such as editing his original prints of the original Star Wars trilogy with all kinds of ugly special effects. Then it was the prequels and of course Jar Jar Bings. Some goes as far of accusing Lucas of raping their childhood. Some fans don't want to accept the truth even tough they know how terrible the whole situation is, and some have just broke from the curse and is not obligated to see any future films.
This is a very interesting documentary that goes deep into the reason why Lucas suddenly change from being a independent director to become what he hated. But the blame isn't only on him alone, but also the fans that has continued to buy his products. Who is going the break the evil circle? Who is the most foolish? the fool or the fool that follows the fool.
As a Star Wars fan myself, I feel though like a heavy burden was lifted of my shoulders knowing I don't have to feel bad for not understand anything about what was going on in The Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones. But I actually liked Revenge of the Sith though. This documentary is a good analyses, specially a psychological one. We can also put it this way. Adults who holds on to their childhood, and don't accept that the times has changes, that is it with all children entertainment. Kids are not the same to day as they were then.
