Review of The People vs. George Lucas (2010) by Ben Y — 10 Mar 2012
This documentary really exposes the power of film. Star Wars has not only became a landmark in film but has also created a world/culture for fans. The Star Wars trilogy has created a lifestyle for many of its fans. People treat Star Wars as if it is a religion, and a intregal part of their lives.
This documentary is about the fans dislike for Lucas changing the original Star Wars and the lack of creativity and genious that went into the prequels. This documentary is interesting becuase the fans feel as if George Lucas has lost his touch and "raped their childhood".I mention the power of film becuase Star Wars was created by Lucas, he is really the only person who can govern and extend the world of Star Wars. But fans feel as if they have a key part in the creation of the world of Star Wars. Many do admit that the very same guy who went against the corporations taking over the art of films, is the same guy who is the huge corporation. It is a hearfelt doc because it shows how the power of Star Wars transcends to the younger generation of prequel fans. I don't think there will ever be a movie like Star Wars that litterally enamors its fans.
