Review of The Pelican Brief (1993) by Luke M — 04 Feb 2014
A surprisingly good film, "The Pelican Brief" is a legal thriller from Alan J. Pakula adapted from a best-selling airport novel by John Grisham.
The storyline has a lot of potential to become cliched and tired very easily, but Pakula instead has created a film that keeps you guessing at every turn.
The acting, however, isn't fantastic. Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington, the two lead stars, seem to spend much of the film on auto-pilot, while the supporting cast benefits from appearances from Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow, but doesn't exactly shine overall either.
It's a shame, because this had potential to be a great film, rather than just a very good one.
