Review of The Pebble and the Penguin (1995) by Corey H — 27 Sep 2010
This is the most underrated of Don Bluth's 90's movies. Even though it isn't Bluth's best film, it's still one of the best I've seen. It really did NOT deserve any of the criticism it got at ALL.
I liked how very pleasant the storyline was. The animation was just as good as it always was. The many songs are quite entertaining, and were nice to listen to, as well. I really like the very first song, "Now and Forever".
It's the song that sounds the best to me. Hubie, the main protagonist, is a very kind guy, and he really does love Marina a lot, which seemed very nice and sweet. Drake seems like a good villain, and he has a cool villain song.
My favorite character was Rocko: He's a fun character to watch, and is quite funny, too. The scenes with the leopard seals and killer whales were quite entertaining to watch, since they make you wonder if the penguins will make it out alive or not.
I also like that Rocko teaches Hubie how to fight, which makes him able to take on leopard seals and take on Drake in the end and ultimately defeat him. One thing I think is weird, though, is when Rocko flies at the end.
That scene aside, I still say that this is definitely a good and funny movie to see.
