Review of The Peanuts Movie (2015) by Forrest L — 28 Dec 2015
This wasn't a bad movie at all, but it was more of a kids' movie than a family movie. With other animated movies, there's usually plenty of stuff for adults to appreciate. The animation and pacing is ok, but don't expect humor or story elements to keep you entertained as an adult. This movie really is mean't mostly for kids. It's definitely more a kids' movie than a family movie.
It's well done-don't get me wrong. And in many ways aspects of the animation surpassed my expectations. The problem is that I felt it was a little simplified for Peanuts. Yeah Peanuts is simple and kid friendly, but like most good cartoons there's a bit more depth to it.
Hollywood has had a bit of a record for make child characters more obnoxious, insecure, and spastic than they need to be. Some of it is probably based on truth, but I feel it was mean't to keep little kids' attention. When I read Peanuts as a kid and teen, I never quite imagined the kids as being so spastic, but more slow and deliberate in their manner, usually more calm. I guess you got to fit the day and age you live in.
The best parts were, and IMO always will be, Snoopy.
Beautifully animated, simple but ok story, voice acting was ok but the scripted mannerisms were a bit much, and snoopy's adventures tying in with the story was actually quite funny.
