What took you so long to make a "Peanuts Movie" Charlie Brown? "The Peanuts Movie is not a great cup of tea but "The Peanuts Movie" is a delightful revival of Charles Schulz's classic "Peanuts" comic strip. Even though there have been many TV specials and movies, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the gang were never brought to the big screen until now. Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Pig-Pen, Schroder, Violet, Marcie, Woodstock and Snoopy are all here and they have brought a faithful adaptation of the classic strip to life.
I have been watching Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang since I was three so there is enough nostalgia for me to like this movie. It's a cute and funny enterprise. When a little red-haired girl moves next door to Charlie Brown (voiced by Noah Schnapp), he immediately develops a crush on her but he's too shy to talk to her. When Charlie has to work on a big homework assignment with the new girl on school, she gets called away by her family for a week because of a family illness. This gives Charlie the oppournity to impress her by finishing the homework assignment himself. Charlie has to write a report on the novel War and Peace. Even though the book is on the collegiate-level, Charlie thinks he can finish his assignment on time.
At the same time, Charlie is surprised to hear that he is the only student in the class to earn a perfect score which enrages Lucy (voiced by Hadley Belle Miller). How did Charlie get a perfect score? Actually he didn't, his test paper was mixed with Peppermint Patty's (voiced by Venus Omega Schultheis) who really got the perfect score. Meanwhile, the lovable beagle Snoopy (voiced by Bill Melendez) writes a book about himself trying to save his love interest, Fifi (voiced by Kristin Chenoweth) from the Red Baron during World War I.
As for the rest of the gang, Linus still carries his blue blanket everywhere he goes, Charlie's little sister Sally (voiced by Mariel Sheets) still has a crush on Linus, Schroder (voiced by Noah Johnston) still plays on the piano and Pig-Pen is still really dirty. Charles Schulz would be proud of this movie, director Steve Martino and the screenwriters know these characters and their daily motivations and the cast (which mostly consists of unknown actors) does a good job of capturing the original voices of these characters.
What are you waiting for Blockheads! See this movie and avoid the upcoming "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip". "The Peanuts Movie" is sweet, charming and funny for the entire family.
