I'm used to seeing Charlie Brown's head as a 2D circle on a screen or sheet of paper. I'm not used to seeing his head as a 3D sphere and viewing his face in a tight close-up. His eyes are little lifeless charcoal dots!

The droll, slow-paced, melancholiac, low-fi look of the TV specials is part of the charm that is the Peanuts comic. When it gets an update courtesy of CGI and a 3D-look, it just seems weird. However, Snoopy does make a nice transition over to CGI. His fantasy sequences where he is a WWI ace come to vivid life especially.

Overall, the story is the usual thing: Charlie is a underachiever, is smitten with the little red-haired girl, tries to impress her, fails and tries again and again and again. Nothing fancy but the story and the characters are punctuated with modern updates that don't mesh with the Peanuts comic that I grew up with. But the movie did get me to feel for Charlie and root for him and ultimately succeed.
