Review of The Peacemaker (1997) by Howie V — 06 Jan 2011
You probably want to keep these two beauties on sceen as much as possible. The whole lengthy opening sequence is counter-productive. Maybe, just cut to "Julia" swimming laps and we'll pick all that up from her POV. She's the seemingly sane character thrust into this insane environment (even "Devoe" is a bit off the handle). All the bad guy scenes - apart from the "Dusan" scenes - are speed bumps. Why does the audience have to be privy to information the principles haven't discovered? We get it twice. It's redundant. Less is more.
Despite the 90's I-don't-really-trust-my-audience sort of storytelling The Peacemaker works. How could it not? A young George Clooney jumping out of helicopters and occasionally hitting on Nicole Kidman. "Julia" wrapping reason into a pretty package - always a good idea. Both trying to save the world. Love the classical piano. Two thumbs up!
"Change but a single note and joy turns into saddness." - Dusan.
