Review of The Patriot (2000) by Performance P — 31 Jan 2011
This film is supposedly a combination of historic characters that form the fictional characters Benjamin Martin and Colonel Tavington. The film despite this historical basis of this film. It is by no means historically accurate.
Mel Gibson gives an almost bi-polar performance. At one moment, he is peaceful. The next, he is filled with rage. After that, he is filled with remorseful. The supporting cast plays their role in the film. That is to say the "bad guy" has those qualities and the old statesmen has those qualities.
Ronald Emmerich makes the typical blockbuster that he is known for. It is filled with witty moments that would make great moments for a trailer. However, Emmerich's film is entertaining. It is predictable though. The astute viewer knows that Martin is not going to die at the end. It's just not that type of movie.
