Review of The Patriot (2000) by Wes S — 19 Apr 2012
Despite Mel Gibsons personal problems, I will never let that affect the way I see him as a fantastic talent. This movie was one of my first favorites as young boy. It is the reason for my interest in history and was the beginning of my interest in film as well.
To this day it is one of my favorites. Critics look down at this film for its depiction of the British soldiers. For that I say this. Use your "professional" critique ability to understand the evils and character of the antagonists.
Watch the film one last time and focus on his role throughout. The evil of the "Red Coats" are instigated through the antagonists (Tavingtons) heartless, and persuasive tactics. I will not go into detail but remember the role of the antagonist.
The role played by Jason Isaacs was very well done. If everyone can look past this minor flaw that in reality is not a flaw at all. You realize this is cinematic beauty on the screen with emotion and patriotism blended masterfully.
