Review of The Patriot (2000) by Peter N — 07 Aug 2012
Although it fails to set itself apart from the countless number of historical war epics, at least it's entertaining. The story follows the typical "retired tough guy compelled to fight again" formula, but Mel Gibson always managed to deliver in a role like this before everyone started hating him.
He brings the same warrior flair to the film that he did five years earlier in Braveheart. The battle scenes don't disappoint, and one can see the potential in relative newcomer Heath Ledger. While not entirely memorable, it's still worth checking out.
