Review of The Patriot (2000) by Jake H — 08 Dec 2014
So The Patriot is a pretty good movie.
It honestly surprises me that there aren't more films revolving around the American Revolution coming out of freakin' America. The Colonial times are very interesting to explore, and although Roland Emmerich's sweeping adventure tale bends history in more than a few ways, I still found it very enjoyable to watch. The cast is nothing short of outstanding, Jason Isaacs standing out in particular as a bloodthirsty British officer. The score by John Williams is fantastic, and perfectly captures the mood and atmosphere of the story and setting. Everything is beautifully shot. The action scenes are pretty intense, and the scenery of the American frontier is truly a sight to behold. Let's not forget about the scene where Mel Gibson goes full Assassin's Creed III.
Overall, I loved The Patriot. Some of the historical inaccuracies itched my inner historian, but as a rousing, epic piece of storytelling, Emmerich has done a bang up job.
