Since Emmerich's "Independence Day". This one is my other favorite of his. Definitely a nail bitter war film, with a heartfelt story of a family who were involved in the American Revolutionary War.

It was a bit of surprising for Mr. Emmerich to make such war epics like this, as he is responsible for such sci-fi blockbusters like Stargate and Godzilla. I thought it was good. Just noticed some weird mood and pacing on this one.

It has a dark tone of a serious drama, especially the first half of it, then it becomes funny sometimes, like it doesn't really necessary to show those scenes. You can notice some humor that Emmerich wants like in his previous films.

I don't know, maybe cause I was watching the extended version. Nonetheless, the cinematography in this film is superb, no doubt. Feels 18th century all over again. Mel Gibson's performance is pretty good, I love him in this film.

He did what he does best. All the cast in this film is great, Heath Ledger is brilliant as always, and special mention to Jason Isaacs as that villain guy. He is such an asshole that you will love his performance.

Good war flick overall, with memorable scenes, and definitely a must see. 4/5.
