Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Ichitan's F — 11 Mar 2013
Honestly, I've been noticing a trend in regards to what many critics have to say about this movie, which serves to present an incorrect picture as to what the movie is trying to portray. In "The Passion of the Christ," what is being depicted above all else is the accuracy of the events entailing Jesus' crucifixion.
When various critics evaluate this movie for an art film, or a cheery love story, they're getting the wrong picture. However, ironically enough, with its abject violence, gore and torture, "The Passion of the Christ" serves to be the ultimate love story, and the ultimate story of self sacrifice, from the most selfless man who walked the earth! As shown in the movie, Jesus was whipped, beaten, mocked and nailed to a cross.
Gibson did all he could in creating validity and accuracy to Christ's crucifixion, because the death of Christ was filled with absolute violence, gore and disgust. And when it is shown that Jesus did that for us, it is sobering.
One man possessed so much love, passion, humility and forgiveness, to the point of sacrificing his life for crimes he did not commit! He had no reason to suffer that pain, he had no crime to be punished for; but instead only absolute love for his people and his creation.
In all honesty, the fact of the matter is, this is probably not a likable movie! When we witness a portrayal of Christs death, his pain and his suffering almost proves to be too much to bare. But if we let it, this movie can help us to perhaps see what he went through, see how much he loved us and better understand his character as a result.
