Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Jesse B — 27 Apr 2012
It would seem, due to the recent and scandalous actions of the film's co-writer and director (Gibson), that a more suiting title for the film would be The Passion of An Anti-Semite. Indeed, this film seems to be the result of a long suffering gestation period, as well as the heart desire of a man to find some form of redemption out of the midst of a darkened past.
However checkered the history of Mr. Gibson's relationship to the Jewish people may be, I find very little cause to quibble over any insinuation which has been laden upon this film that it is an exercise in Jew-hatred.
It is my opinion that any misrepresentation of events surrounding Jesus' trial and death is due primarily to the lack of understanding concerning the historical Jewish backdrop of the first century C.
E., as well as a too refined viewpoint of events through the muddied lenses of Roman Catholic dogmatic mythology.
