Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by James Z — 21 Dec 2015
"The Passion of the Christ" is Mel Gibson's controversial, brutal, and beautiful depiction of the last 12 hours of Jesus; the most important time in human history. We see not only the physical torment that Christ endured through this time, but the spiritual oppression that he faced as well. It shows the personality, courage, resolve, sacrifice, and, yes, the passion that Jesus, the son of God, had in all of these moments.
The film's production, both historic and artistic, value is incredible. Gibson went to great lengths to make the atmosphere and setting feel as authentic as possible, including the film being spoken entirely in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Latin. You feel like the events before your eyes are actually happening, adding weight to the historical event. It's absolutely riveting.
This is a deeply moving film that stirs the heart, and reminds of us the relentless and passionate love that God has for His creation.
My Score: 10/10.
