Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Warren S — 15 Aug 2012
I've never had such an emotional experience at a movie before. It was hard to watch, but it seemed very real and from the moment the film began, I felt like I was able to be there and see it come to pass.
The fact that they were speaking the original language made it more real. This wasn't just a violent picture of what one man endured, this was the story of my salvation. This was what my Savior went through because of His love for me.
Because of that...the tears flowed and would not stop. Trying to hold back the tears was not an option, so I just tried not to sob so loud that it would disturb the people around me. Gibson made a spectacular film and I believe he never got the credit that he should have for making it.
I also thought that Caviezel was amazing. I've always liked him anyway, but this was his best work. I'm not sure I would have even known it was him. I own this film now, and repeated viewings have not had the same reaction, but even as a piece of art, I have to say that this film is great.
