Review of The Party (1968) by A;Slkfj A — 14 Jan 2008
Must every Blake Edwards film come attached with some cornball romantic subplot? Honestly... The film starts off promisingly enough, with an expectedly stellar performance from Peter Sellers (I don't think this man could have been unfunny had his life depended on it.). There are also plenty of humorous moments from the supporting cast peppered throughout (The drunken waiter comes immediately to mind.). However, it's after the French love interest is more prominently introduced that the film loses focus of its main storyline and dissolves into a largely incoherent mess.
...An elephant? Seriously?
I realize this film is slapstick and, don't get me wrong, it is extremely funny at times, but I would have appreciated a little more closure pertaining to the actual plot.
