Review of The Party (1968) by Lafe B — 25 Aug 2009
Very much like a Jacques Tati movie with the Monsieur Hulot character. It doesn't quite reach the heights of a Jacques Tati movie though. The house is fantastic as a giant prop. Peter Sellers does a fantastic job -- his mannerisms and speech patterns are spot on -- he actually reminds me of a good friend of mine (who will remain unnamed :-).
The black face is sometimes a little bit disconcerting though. I actually like the drunk servant very much and wished there was more of him. There are some slow bits as the pacing is sometimes uneven.
