Review of The Parallax View (1974) by Cate H — 01 Apr 2008
This "conspiracy theory" drama had everything going for it but failed to deliver in the end. The film opens with a great assassination sequence atop the Seattle Space Needle and then fizzles.
The climax of the film wasn't as intense as it could have been and it doesn't match the power of the opening scenes. This film also suffered from some poor special effects. Yes it was 1974, but the scene where Warren Beatty walks off screen away from an airplane that you know is going to blow up was a cost cutting crapper.
No plane exploding (or even a miniture) but rather a hokey camera shake and dubbed in audio. No smoke, no fire, no debris... nothing. I give it 3 stars based on premise and Warren Beatty's ability to keep me interested in finishing it.
