Review of The Parallax View (1974) by Dan S — 26 May 2011
The second of Alan J. Pakula's Paranoia Trilogy (between KLUTE and ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN), THE PARALLAX VIEW is a dark, existential conspiracy thriller. Warren Beatty plays a tenacious reporter investigating the assassination of a presidential candidate, who stumbles upon a mysterious corporation.
Pakula's slow and deliberate pace, combined with Gordon Willis' distinct cinematography, draws the viewer into Beatty's isolated investigation. With a solid performance by Beatty at the centre, THE PARALLAX VIEW is a taught, intriguing, and thought-provoking 70s thriller.
