Review of The Paperboy (2012) by Dan M — 27 Nov 2012
This is a tough movie to watch. There are many graphic scenes, and I don't think they are actually needed. For example, we see an alligator hunter gutting an alligator. Do we need to see the guts spilling out of the animal? Is it just for shock value? There are also very graphic scenes involving rough sex, bondage, and urinating on people.
Then there were scenes that should have been shown that took place off-camera (like one of the major climatic parts of the movie was off-screen!) All that being said, this movie isn't a total waste.
I think the the performances were great. John Cusack does a great job playing a horrible criminal, and Nicole Kidman is very enjoyable to watch (and she looks great)! I was interested in the story, but I just had turn away a few too many times, and since this isn't a horror movie, I don't think that is a good thing.
