The Paperboy is an interesting mess. The performances are great (Nicole Kidman didn't get a Golden Globe nod for no reason) and the plot is frequently engaging. But it's so clumsily executed and over-the-top that at times I couldn't tell whether it wanted to be a straight-up crime drama or a black comedy.
