Review of The Paperboy (2012) by Roxanne R — 08 Feb 2013
What a pandora's box was this motion picture, wow! If you want mystery, drama, suspence and surprises then rent it because the plot contains all those elements and delivers plenty. The same director of Precious (Lee Daniels) directs this film about a newspaper reporter named Ward (Matthew McConaughey) that returns home (Miami) to investigate the conviction of Hilary Van Wetter (John Cusack), accused of murdering a local sheriff.
Ward arrives with a stuffy Englishman named Yardley (David Oyelowo) on the hunch that Hilary was falsely convicted. So Ward, his handsome and younger brother Jack (Zac Efron) and Charlotte (Kidman) who wrote letters to Hilary in prison, pay him a visit trying to uncover the truth.
As you watch this sexually charged film, major skeletons will blast out of the closet- still remember one scene vividly that left me speechless because I never saw that coming (involving Ward and two black men).
Definitely evil and nastiness is found at this Florida bayou and it is alarming to see the conditions some of those swamp residents live in- SCARY! Fascinating as a viewer to get a glimpse of that life and this movie seems to be based on a bestselling novel.
I will die if I don't say what is on my mind: what a stupid fool was Charlotte! She had the love of Jack yet threw it away for a disgusting felon. Honestly the only character of the bunch that I liked was Jack Jansen.
Highly recommended for adults, and will provide plenty of conversation among viewers!!
