Review of The Paperboy (2012) by Justin R — 17 Apr 2013
I think it was a really good film, a really sick film where all the characters somehow are crazy in their own way. I love movies that show everything so real, if you are on a country that is hot all the time, you are going to be sweaty and tired and that's just one of the many aspects that I liked of the film, the actors weren't afraid of appearing on screen all dirty trash.
I liked the transitions, they were so weird sometimes but they fit perfectly every time, also the music is wonderful, it's the kind of film that on the most dramatic scenes they put music that doesn't even fit but somehow it does (how is that possible? I don't even know).
I haven't read the novel but the story is fantastic, every single character is fascinating, you get to feel something for every single one of them. Zac Efron was really good, I never pictured him doing this kind of movies where he didn't look all clean and handsome all the time, he's really great at playing someone who is in love for the first time and he can't hide that he is obsessed, maybe his crying wasn't the best but the rest of his performance... thumbs up. Matthew McConaughey was also good, not the best performance of his career. There is something I didn't like about John Cusack, I'm not used to see him on this kind of films but I think his performance could've been better. Nicole Kidman blew my mind, I have quite some time that I didn't saw her on a good film and she reminded me why I'm a huge fan of her... She switched from red carpet beautiful super star to dirty trash. There is a scene where they see John's character for the first time and holly shit, she was amazing in it, I couldn't stop smiling because she did such a great job, I couldn't believe that it was Nicole Kidman on that film.
If you like a dramatic film that goes slow but it has a thrilling ending... this is the movie for you.. Spoiler alert; it has some strong scenes, don't watch with parents.
