Review of The Paperboy (2012) by Matt W — 08 Jan 2014
With some of the busiest few weeks in a long time, I needed to watch a movie. Anything.
I wish it hadn't been this though.
The Paperboy is ambitious in it's direction, but feels overstuffed and messy. The narrative starts out strong and then, quite quickly, falls off the edge of a cliff. Each character has their own story that clashes here, and it all feels overproduced, but strangely underdone.
Nicole Kidman pees on Zac Efron yes, but the scene as a whole just feels a little pointless. I get that Lee Daniels aimed to make this movie in the vein of a 70's flick, but I just didn't get invested.
I just got a little bored.
This film is supposed to be darkly funny, but it just didn't work for me.
Yeah, I didn't like it.
