What starts out as your typical run of the mill thriller, albeit with some terrific against-type performances from all involved, is quickly and completely derailed by a series of sordid subplots involving sex and/or horrific violence that shock to the point of numbness, whereby the would-be tragically ironic denouement fails to make an impact above what has gone before.
