Review of The Paper Chase (1973) by Adam K — 17 Nov 2007
If only more movies were like this one. A decent plot: a first-year Harvard law student discovers the absurdity of the system he used to adore. But the film transcends its plot or characters through its production value.
The tight script serves to develop the characters beyond traditional exposition and into archetypal, almost mythological figures. The cinematography is simply perfect. The whole film has a literary feeling about it.
This is what cinema should be.
