Review of The Paper Chase (1973) by Alexavier R — 13 Feb 2008
This is a perfectly nice comedy - drama about a first year law student at Harvard. John Houseman won an Oscar for his role as Professor Kingsfeld and he is quite fantastic, serious with just the right amount of comedy.
..just like the film he is in. It seems a bit out dated, with many of the trappings of a typical 70's film, but the acting and writing are sufficient and likeable. It's certainly one of the better, and more entertaining films about college life I have ever seen.
The films loses some steam near the end...it all seems a little anti-climatic after the famous showdown between teacher and student. Overall though it serves up the right amount of comedy and drama and mixes it into a likeable package.
