A disturbingly raw, accurate tale that exposes the dark heart of heroin addiction. Pacino stars as an atypical street junkie filled with the usual paper promises but it's really Kitty Wenn's film; her gradual descent into oblivion brings home the powerlessness of addiction.
With the benefit of hindsight, 'The Panic' proves to be indicative of the cultural fall-out that occured as the sixties faded into the seventies and the harsh reality of hard drugs replaced the youthful naivety of psychedelics.
