Review of The Panic in Needle Park (1971) by Lucas Y — 06 Nov 2008
One of the original drug addiction movies, The Panic in Needle Park is very comparable to Candy with Heath Ledger if you've ever seen that. It's the story of two hopeless people who find each other, fall in love, then become addicted to heroin as much as they're addicted to each other. The story is quite touching at times, but nothing THAT special or memorable. Al Pacino and Kitty Winn are both pretty good. It's shot well in NYC. It's worth a watch.
I guess what I liked most about this film is the fact that no matter how bad the two main characters' addictions get, the fact is that they're better off with each other as addicts, rather than without each other and not addicts.
