Review of The Palm Beach Story (1942) by Michael D — 01 Jul 2008
Who needs prozac when you have Preston Sturges. As light as meringue but still delighfully whimsical story of a woman leaving her struggling husband architect, convinced that they will be better off apart so she can find a rich sugar daddy to somehow support them as 'brother and sister'. Sounds ridiculous? it is. But it's also Sturges in his prime and a joy to watch.
There are many great scenes but the one on the train with the drunken hunting party was the highlight for me (in spite of the very dated racist depiction of the barkeep...).
