Review of The Paleface (1948) by Edith N — 03 Aug 2011
25 years before Mel Brooks shook things up with "Blazing Saddles", Bob Hope and Jane Russell starred in "The Paleface", one of the original Western comedies. Russell's spunky disposition as Calamity Jane and Hope's hapless unheroics â" as the unsuspecting dentist she marries as a cover for a secret mission in Indian country â" meld together nicely.
As always, Hope's effortless comedic rhythm makes him a pleasure to watch, and he does a pleasant job of warbling the Oscar-winning "Buttons and Bows".
