Review of The Painted Veil (2006) by Billys. — 12 Jan 2007
The Painted Veil is like stumbling on one of those great Joan Crawford melodramatic love stories at 2 a.m. and not being able to turn it off! It is all very well made and shows a lot of heart but it feels like a sad attempt at a by-gone genre that was done so much better a few years ago in Far From Heaven.
Naomi Watts and Edward Norton are both very good but they come off a little more nostalgic than realistic. The score and cinematography make it worth the price of admission if your in the mood for a beautiful, good old melodrama.
