Review of The Painted Veil (2006) by Jean B — 17 Dec 2008

A slow film that requires a second viewing for those who didn't read the book yet or for people who were expecting more flash than substance. I would qualify for both those categories but from what I remember of the first viewing, I did appreciate the beauty and delicacy portrayed in the leads' relationship as well as their surroundings.

One friend told me she was so depressed after falling in love with Norton's character bc she felt that he was too good to be ever found in reality. I can't say the movie (or Norton) had the same effect on me, but the story of the restoration of love was indeed touching and aesthetically complemented by the pleasurable cinematography.
