Review of The Painted Veil (2006) by Lindsay W — 10 Jan 2009
I was prepared for a Madame Bovary; a spoiled and selfish rich woman with an adoring and simpering husband utterly focused on medicine and too blind to see his wife for who she truly is. I was very pleasantly surprised to find the characters more sympathetic, and more complex.
Though the ending is just exactly what you'd expect, it's still a moving romance. Naomi Watts and Edward Norton are superb; though of course that should also come as no surprise.
