Review of The Painted Veil (2006) by Emil K — 01 May 2009
This film casts a strangely hypnotic spell for it's whole running time, but at the same it leaves you completely distant when it comes to characters. It is a gorgeous film for eyes and ears with A-list production team.
With perfect support from lenser Stuart Dryburgh and composer Alexandre Desplat director John Curran manages to keep it a sight to see. But while there is meant to be romance between the leads I most certainly didn't see it on the screen.
Actually it is more of a story about two people who get involved by chance and end up living together while hating each other. Only in the end we can see some true emotions, but it all comes too late and all that is left is handsomely made postcard from China that also sounds great too.
