Review of The Painted Veil (2006) by Ian H — 22 May 2010
A most wonderfully visually setting for a story that plunges extreme depths and just as extreme highs in this story that has me now looking for the novel on which this film adaptation was based.
For me this was a superb film that took an honest look at relationships: how they can be formed, how they can be sustained, how they can be broken, and ultimately how they can be redeemed. The background of the horror of cholera in a far-away [distance as well as culture] land heightened to me the exploration of Water and Kitty's relationship, which I thought was marvellously brought to life by Edward Norton and Naomi Watts. A film to savour, and to ponder afterwards.
