The pact is one of those movies that thinks it's a lot better than it is. And maybe in some alternate universe it is. There is certainly a substantial even intriguing idea beneath all of the misguided execution.

I'd like to say the screenplay is good but in truth it's a little clichà (C)d, hokey and anti climactic. And I'd like to say the direction is good but the films pacing is too slow too merit any type of suspense until its shortened climax.

And I'd like to say even one of the performances is good but they are not. Not to say any of those things are all that bad. The screenplay maybe severely flawed but it's central idea is creative although more suited to a TV episode than a feature.

The direction feels somewhat competent and the cinematography is fitting and in some instances inspired. And the performances from the actors shows that they are really trying to elevate themselves and the film they are in but ultimately they are only one dimensional and not developed enough for us to too truly care about.

That being said any one of the actors in this film would do well to star in a movie that doesn't take itself so seriously and have a more successful impact. All in all The Pact is just eh. It starts off well enough but ends up going nowhere resulting in a cinematic failure to launch.

It may be ambitious but thats not enough to merit a recommendation to a movie that has little to no entertainment value and not much else to boot. 2/5.
